Writing During the Holidays (Or Lack Thereof)

It’s now three days after Christmas, and I can honestly say it’s been way too long since I’ve written anything. I can only recall writing one day since Thanksgiving to be honest. My best friend and fellow wench Samantha sat and I had our own little write in, but I didn’t accomplish much.

Why is it so hard to write around the holidays? Between hosting the holidays, present shopping, and decorating, I have had every excuse in the book to avoid my computer and opening Scrivener.  I was able to make time in the summer and fall with all of the outdoor activities and birthday parties, but I had no will to fit in writing time between Thanksgiving to New Years. Even today three days later, this is the first time I’ve opened my computer, and it wont be open long as I’ve got my nephews birthday party this afternoon.

The characters in my head still have stories to be told, and their being very patient. I don’t like it. I think it’s time to get on the ball and give them the story they deserve, but the question still remains. How do I get back into the swing of things and find my writing motivation? What do you do when you’ve hit a slump? Suggestions are welcomed and appreciated here. I’m nowhere near ready to be done writing, I just need a little kick in the pants to get started again.

  1. I’ve been the same way. I had intended to get a big chunk of the summer anthology story done before January. I have one page I think. o.O I just can’t get my head in it. I do know Jan 1st its on. No more playing around. I have to write that summer story, edit another and plot another. PLUS, I have a book coming out end of Jan. — I’ll motivate you, if you motivate me! 😀

    1. Ashlynn that sounds like a good idea to me! I have three full length stories started, one of which I’m just not ready to write, but the other two I have no excuse for not working on them. And I haven’t even written a word of the anthology… We need to get our heads in the game and get some writing done!
